Want details of Aakash Tablet? Wish to know how to buy Aakash tablet? You can't. Shocked? Yes, you cannot buy Aakash tablet anymore. It was a limited edition production and is now marked SOLD OUT. Check out your options and dont forget to read a review of Aakash by a real user. Actually, two reviews!

Details of Aakash Tablet - SOLD OUT

How can Aakash sell out without even coming to market? I don't know the exact answer. I can figure out Data Wind manufactured a very limited number of Aakash tablets that were distributed to some lucky students. I don't know the exact number. Maybe you remember the number of tablets distributed by Mr. Sibal on the launch of Aakash in India. Maybe, that was the only number of Aakash tablets manufactured by Data Wind.

If you were looking for commercial version of the Aakash tablet, you need not worry. Data Wind has come up with an advanced version of Aakash. People in India are calling it Aakash 2 while Data Wind calls it UBISlate 7+. It says UBISlate 7 was Aakash and is no more available. If you are looking for the student version, please see the "details of Aakash tablet" section at a later time. There is no information about it as of now. If you can cite any source about it, I will be grateful.

Before covering details of Aakash 2 tablet, let me explain why Aakash tablet sold out.

Aakash After Sales Rift - GoI vs Data Wind

According to Data Wind, the government had asked it to replace tablets that come for repairs. This means even if there is a small fault in Aakash tablet, Data Wind has to replace it with a new Aakash (UBISlate 7) tablet. That would mean a huge loss to the company. They were said to be negotiating with the government on the issue. I did not hear anything after that except that Aakash was sold out.

State of Aakash After Sales Now

Since the original model is no longer being manufactured, the customer is left with two choices:

1. Get the older model repaired or

2. Pay extra for the updated Aakash 2 (UBISlate 7+).

Indeed it is a well planned move and I support it. After all, why should the government insist on replacing the entire unit each time a tablet has problems. That demand by GoI is simply unacceptable. Even I would have done the same if I were in place of Data Wind.

I do not know about the after sales service for Aakash 2 or UBISlate 7+ tablet. However, I assume it would be repairing instead of replacing entire unit.

Email Review of Aakash Tablet By A User

Hi All,

Above all I would like to inform you that I am keeping a pin attached to my pen drive and using a HB pencil as home made stylus to operate this (not) so easy fully indian device, if this is how we have to operate then I am really very sorry I dont even need a replacement of the device. There are no ear phones which has been given, I am using my phone's ear plugs to listen to video or music, I have to use these because there is no internal speakers attached. This has been made for the student to listen to the online lectures of the different colleges and schools, now my question is how many schools and colleges are WIFI activated, there are applications like notepad, word, excel and blah blah, but how can a student write on this if the touch of the device is so hard to push, sir, this is totally unacceptable as this is not more than a toy rather than a equipment on which an Indian should feel proud.

I am giving you a list of defects which are prevailing in this device.

1. It hangs alot and I have to use a pinhole to reset it very often.

2. While charging it gets hot and some time I had a feel that It might explode due to excessive heating, again this is big security hazards for student, I would not give this device to my kids if this is the case.

3. Battery backup is very less.

4. There is no sound control given on the device, while watching a video or song you need to stop the  video and then go to settings and then control sound, there is no multitasking , are we living in stone age?

5. There is no provision for attaching this device to Ethernet, I have spent extra 3500/- to convert my broadband into Wireless.

6. The touch of the device is so hard to use and I am using a HB pencil to scroll and push.

7. There are games installed in the device as an entertainment pack, please try to play these games. Its real stupid games.

Keeping all these points I personally feel its of no use , the only thing I would be settling would be "REFUND ONLY".

Thanks and Regards

Avnish Laroiya
